If you haven’t heard of Shannan Monson before, don’t worry you’re not alone, I hadn’t either. But trust me, because of her passion for creating passive income, and so much more, it’s a name you’ll want to remember! She’s a woman who is going to make a huge impact in the world in a profound way.
Mark my words.
When I interviewed Shannan we talked about a variety of things in a short amount of time and I walked away feeling like I had met a force to be reckoned with.
Fast-forward a few weeks later when I finally had a chance to review my notes and start writing this article (hello flu season)…
I rewatched our entire interview and thought, everyone needs to know who this person is, she is absolute DYNAMITE.
I wasn’t sure how to shape this article or what to focus on when I realized just how much great advice Shannan gave during our interview.
She has this astounding way of casually inserting the most brilliant insights into a conversation without even trying. Or what I imagine, knowing that she’s even doing it.
She makes me want to start a business centered in the wellness industry (her specialty), just so I can one day have the opportunity to work with her.
Ladies, she’s that good.
So how did she get to where she is today?
As a serial entrepreneur, she started out as a certified personal trainer turned dietitian who saw the buzz around Instagram and wanted in.
From there she started her own account sharing recipes and eventually creating meal plans for people which leads me to Insight #1 Shannan didn’t even explicitly mean to share.
Start before you’re ready and say YES!
She promoted her meal plans and sold FORTY before she even sat down to create one. Why?
Because she saw the opportunity and demand within the community she was building, knew her own ability and went for it!
From there she leveraged her success on Instagram and organically started coaching others in the space becoming the Nutritionist Who Coaches Nutritionists.
Since then her business has exploded working with all kinds of entrepreneurs in the wellness space.
She’s even consulted for Silicon Valley start-ups and some of the top brands in food & wellness including Foodtography School, Clean Simple Eats, The Nutrition Addiction.
But get this babes.
She actually only works with women!
Ahhh, major girl crush.
Shannan understands the struggle a lot of women go through between having a family and trying to maintain a career.
So she made it her mission to spread the message: you’re worth more, and you deserve to get paid more, too.
Women as a general rule feel like they have to choose either motherhood or their job. When put in the position of working a job that only ends up covering childcare, many end up quitting to raise a family.
This brings me to Insight #2.
Your brain is worth just as much if not more than a man’s
So Shannan’s goal with her clients? To help women create 6-figure passive income streams and scalable business models.
Basically focusing on how to create more money passively while using the time (however limited that may be) that you have during the day.
So, of course, I had to ask then, as a mother and busy entrepreneur herself, how does she plan out her day? Does she follow the structured morning and night routines so many of us live and die by?
With two kids, one in kindergarten and the other in pre-K I’m surprised she didn’t laugh at me.
“Flexibility is key” she says. It’s not so much about sticking to a schedule and working a set number of hours a day.
It’s more about what you do with the time you do have.
Work at your HIGHEST LEVEL always
If you can only work two hours a day, work at your highest level to maximize your time and prioritize your tasks.
Trust me, she built a multi 6-figure business with a toddler and newborn to take care of…
She knows what she’s talking about.
“Just because your life is chaotic, does not mean you can’t build a business. Life is not gonna slow down. Life is crazy but you can build in spite of that!
Businesses are built in garages and basements and living rooms and you just have to embrace the chaos!”
Okay okay, so no to the routines, got it.
But what about some of the other buzzed-about things we hear about so often like journaling?
That practice she can get down with.
Even though she may not journal every day, she makes time about once a week. Then she’ll write down how she’s feeling about everything that’s going on and what her next step goals are.
“I found it can be hard to dream bigger”.
A common issue among women entrepreneurs, (we suggest taking some tips from Big Idea Queen Haley Hoffman Smith). Check out her featured interview on BossBabe, What's the Big Idea? Haley Hoffman Smith & Her Big Idea, for guidance.
But Shannan says at the beginning of each quarter she creates a new vision statement to follow. In it, she maps out where she wants to be in 6 months – up to 5 years to stay focused.
So what do the next 5 years look like?
She plans on hitting 7-figures then multiple 7-figures within her business WHILE slowing down and finding more balance overall.
Think about that for a second.
She plans to MAKE MORE MONEY while TAKING MORE TIME FOR OTHER THINGS OUTSIDE OF HER BUSINESS.
If that’s not proof in the pudding I don’t know what is.
At the end of our call, I felt so inspired and motivated to brainstorm how I could make more money passively in my business.
Luckily Shannan gave me the answer and allowed me to share it with all of you BossBabes as well!
She’s sharing her 4-step process to creating scalable passive income & changing lives while you sleep.
