We dove into our very own BossBabe community to share the stories of women who are chasing their dreams, taking our courses and killing the game. All with total transparency, and real talk behind the highlight reel. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be spotlighting real-life BossBabes to learn how they get it all done and what they’ve learned along the way…
Meet Lesley Calvo. At 28 this BossBabe seemed to have it all, a multi-6 figure jewelry business and collaborations with Dior, Cartier and Vivienne Westwood — yet privately, she was struggling with deep feelings of anxiety and depression.
What Lesley Calvo didn’t realize is that these dark days would become the catalyst for change she was craving. Today, 13 years later, this mama and bonafide BossBabe is happily growing her coaching business from Switzerland, married to the love of her life and she’s just getting started.
Lesley came to work with BossBabe because she wanted to scale her business from just being in-person to online as well. Here’s how Lesley transformed her negative self-talk into a business that teaches others to thrive, making her our BossBabe Success Story of the week…
What do you do + why do you do it?
I'm Lesley Calvo, a mindset and business coach, a mum and a wife, living in Switzerland. Entrepreneurship has always been my thing; I started my first jewelry company straight out of University and grew it to sell globally, earning multiple 6-figures by the time I was 28.
At the same time, I was consulting for luxury brands such as Cartier, Dior, and Vivienne Westwood. On the outside, I looked like I had a perfect life. On the inside, however, it was a completely opposite story. I was suffering from anxiety, depression and was suicidal. There came a point when I knew I couldn't carry on like that anymore. I knew something had to change. I surrendered, asked for help and made it my mission to find a way to overcome my negative self-talk and those overwhelming feelings.
That mission led me to retrain as an NLP Master Practitioner, a Hypnotherapist, Reiki Master and to study mindfulness and meditation around the world. As I transformed so did my life, I realized that what I was learning was teachable. People organically began to ask for my help. I took the leap and sold my business, deciding to focus on what is my zone of genius and what I am truly aligned with. Finally, I started working with people to transform their lives.
Showing them how it is possible to have both material success and flourish in all the other areas of their life too.
Why did you enroll in IGA? What did you hope to gain?
I have a thriving offline business, but before 2019 I didn't have an online business. Already enrolled in The Société, I wanted help growing my Instagram so I could start making money from that platform as well. I wanted BossBabes to help me scale my business to the next level online!
What was your business or life like before you took IGA? How has it changed?
It has totally changed as now I am getting DMs from people asking how they can work with me and getting clients. My followers have grown to 1,300 and I can see now how it is possible to run a business online!
What are you most proud of since working with BossBabe?
Most of all I am proud of the fact that what I do makes a difference and changes people's lives. That I get daily DMs from women I have never met telling me that I am helping them and that I get to see the clients I work with effortlessly achieving the life that they have always dreamed of. I am really proud of the community I am building, the people I'm helping and the growth I'm experiencing. That I had the guts to sell my company and start again with something that I am truly aligned with, and that I am growing that business in leaps and bounds.
You’ve rocked your results, what’s the #1 result or outcome you’re most excited about?
I feel the support is incredible. I am also proud that I have made so many real meaningful connections with other women here. Since starting IGA I have grown from 160 followers to 1,400 and have tripled my income. They are all my ideal clients.
What’s your superpower?
Intuition and problem-solving. I help people to see the best version of themselves and hold that vision, then help them take the steps they need to step into that and achieve their dream.
What are some practical things you do to manage your time effectively?
The first thing I do is time-block. I schedule large chunks of time on each project so as not to lose productivity by task switching. Also, I turn off all notifications during those times. I have a strict limit on how much time I spend on social media. I also have 2 x a day when I check my emails. This keeps me very focused on working on what is directly in hand.
What are your top 3 ways to deal with stress and/or practice self-care?
First of all, I meditate daily. This was a real game-changer for me as it helps me start my day from a place of calm. I also have a gratitude alarm set daily. This reminds me to come back to the present moment, take some deep breaths and remember the good in my life. Lastly, I always make time for myself. This may sound obvious, though it is something we often forget to do. One thing I love to do is go horse riding in the forest, this is my best form of self-care. Getting into nature is a powerful way to de-stress.
Real talk. What’s one thing every BossBabe should remember when she feels defeated or ready to give up?
That she is not alone in that. That what she is feeling is normal and even the most successful people on the planet have experienced those feelings.
Also, remember that these feelings will pass, because on another day she will feel unstoppable. The fact that she is experiencing those feelings means she is pushing outside her comfort zone and growing. Similarly, even though at that moment it feels the opposite, it is actually a good sign. Often we have those moments right before a breakthrough. Keep going, you can do it!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever followed through with?
- Success is inevitable if you are willing to do the work and work on yourself.
- That you have within yourself all you need to be truly happy.
What’s one limiting belief that you’ve overcome + how?
The belief that I needed to struggle and grind to succeed. I learned how to change my inner beliefs on a deeper level; a lot of them came from generations before me. I learned that from shifting your mindset and coming from a different internal space, success can be a process of consistent action, flow and ease.
Where do you find motivation/ inspiration?
I love my job and I am motivated by the desire to help others. Specifically, I love to know that I am fulfilling my potential by doing what I am good at, and at the same time making a difference.
Usually, I find inspiration from my 5-year-old daughter, she is so wise and funny. I also find inspiration from people living life in their full authenticity.
What’s your personal mantra?
What you believe you can achieve.
What’s next for you and your business?
2020 is an exciting year as I have many new projects in the pipeline. They will involve a lot of travel, up-leveling and stretching myself; I know this is where incredible growth happens. I will continue to expand my business and my team, and provide an exceptional level of support to my clients.
