She no longer had FOMO around her friends who were having babies, getting married and doing all the things…she got back into the game, and she’s showing other women how to do the same.
Keshia started working with BossBabe 1 year after starting her business. She wanted help growing her audience and email list so she could attract more soul-aligned clients. Just 60 days into working with BossBabe she crushed her first 5k month. Here’s how this dating coach turned a crisis into a bold pivot that manifested her soul mate + ideal career path making her our BossBabe Success story of the week.
What do you do + why do you do it?
I’m a dating coach from Atlanta. I had a successful career as a journalist when the quarter-life crisis hit. It seemed like all of a sudden, everything in my life that could go wrong, did. I was having issues at my job, my relationship at the time fell apart, and I was battling a chronic illness. And to make matters worse, all of my friends were #blessed. All my friends were getting promotions, getting married, traveling and having babies.
I remember breaking down one day while planning my friend's bridal shower. I knew something had to change. Fast forward 365 days later and I’ve healed from toxic relationships, found my husband and started a coaching business.
Why did you enroll in IGA? What did you hope to gain?
I had a large following on Instagram, but not an engaged one. I was constantly posting, but feeling like no one was really watching me or paying attention. And I definitely was not making money.
What was your business or life like before you took IGA? How has it changed?
I’ve triple the engagement I used to have. I've been getting more likes and comments than ever! I also have more women DM'ing me to ask about working with me. And my following has grown by a couple of thousand followers. The visibility allowed me to land more one on one clients, book my first speaking engagement, and get booked on several podcasts.
What are you most proud of since starting IGA?
Before IGA, I purged my Instagram feed and deleted 2,000 followers. In about two months, I regained that many followers – only now, they're actually ideal clients and not random. I also had my first $5k month after inconsistently bringing in clients, and I've since topped that..
You’ve rocked your results, what’s the #1 result or outcome you’re most excited about?
I've gone from having no comments to 20-50 comments per post. I get DMs about 3-4 times a week when my DMs were crickets before. I've also been a featured speaker at a conference and appeared on six podcasts.
What’s your superpower?
I'm highly intuitive. I'm able to really see the women I work with and feel their pains and problems.
What are some practical things you do to manage your time effectively?
Time blocking. I set timers, put my phone on airplane mode, and work straight until the timer is up. I also make sure to reward myself (a sweet snack, or time scrolling social media, or a favorite TV show) so things don't get too tedious.
What are your top 3 ways to deal with stress and/or practice self-care?
Put time for yourself on a calendar. Otherwise, you'll get busy, and it won't happen. 2) Set boundaries with loved ones and stay firm on them. 3) Don't bottle up your emotions. Always have ways to release – talking to someone, exercise, or journaling.
Real talk. What’s one thing every BossBabe should remember when she feels defeated or ready to give up?
It's always darkest before dawn. We have a tendency to take something like entrepreneurship, romanticize it, and think everything is going to be sunshine and roses. Life has difficult moments. We need them to appreciate our success.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever followed through with?
Ask for help. There are always people who love you and want to come through for you.
You will never be ready for anything in life, so just jump and have faith.
Love is not a feeling. It's an action and choice you make each day.
What’s one limiting belief that you’ve overcome + how?
I thought I had to be glamorous to be a coach. I thought no one would want to listen to the black girl with the quiet voice from South Carolina. But I forced myself to be more visible. I had to – I had bills to pay! But in doing that, I met all types of women who resonated with me and my story. They didn't need glamour – they needed authenticity.
Where do you find motivation/ inspiration?
My nieces. I spent years battling low self-esteem, and dating toxic men because I felt I couldn't do better. I look at my nieces, and other young girls I mentor, and I refuse to let them grow up not knowing their worth.
What’s your personal mantra?
Happiness is achieved when you stop waiting for it to happen and take steps to make it happen.
What’s next for you and your business?
I've taken the lessons I teach my one on one clients, and created a course, Confidently Cherished! The program shows women how to get clear on what they want out of love, banish limiting beliefs, and use their feminine energy to attract high-value men. I am also planning to do a lot more speaking in 2020.
